Abbie: In Training to Fight Leukemia
Hello, and thank you for visiting my pledge page. Please take the time to read my mission below.
I am doing this in memory of my father, William Thyer, who passed away from Leukemia/Lymphoma complications on December 26, 1997. He is a great man whose life was cut short from this terrible disease.
Every 9 minutes, a person dies from leukemia, lymphoma, or myeloma.
The good news is with generous help, some of these valuable lives will be saved!!!! One such life that we are working to save is that of my honored patient, who I will meet at the Kick-off meeting and will provide more information about later.
On April 28, 2002, on my 25th birthday, I will participate in the St. Anthony's Triathlon in St. Petersburg Florida. The triathlon consists of a 1-mile swim, 25-mile bike ride, and 6- mile run.
I have committed to raise $4,000 prior to the event for the Leukemia and Lymphoma society. For all the money raised, at least 75% will directly fund research, education and patient support programs. The rest of the money covers administrative costs, coaching, the training program, mentoring and travel expenses. Your donation will make a difference!
Team in Training is a wonderful organization that provides training, coaching, and motivation for individuals brave enough to commit to raise a specific amount of money AND to participate in a triathlon or marathon. Team In Training has raised millions of dollars toward finding cures for blood related cancers. The survival rate has improved exponentially since the beginning of this program, and we are dedicated to finding a cure.
Although training for a triathlon will be a tough struggle, it is nothing compared to the struggles that these patients and their loved ones face everyday.
